Facing business burnout.

When burnout hits, productivity and quality output plummets. This is the executive burnout secret.

I coach a lot of leading executives across diverse industries that are under a huge amount of stress. Inevitably, leaders face burnout—and when it hits, productivity suffers and quality of output dips, sometimes substantially.

The main reason executives (and others) face burnout is the same reason our muscles get fatigued in the gym; repetition. Whilst repetition can be good for habit creation, it can also destroy our cognitive flexibility, exacerbate mental and emotional fatigue, and drive burnout.

When one of my executive clients is facing burnout, the first thing we do is identify repetition, then create a new schedule. If you workout in the morning, we move it to the afternoon. We shift meetings, travel, routes and even lunch or dinner locations. We even shift the people in the schedule.

The results are dramatic. Energy comes back, creativity flourishes, positive anticipation increases and productivity skyrockets. Put simply, when you’re facing burnout, change as much as you can in your daily schedule. Not only will you experience new things, but those new experiences will drive incredible results in both your personal and professional life.
